This first session will address the critical elements involved in supervising PhD/MD students as well as post-doctoral researchers in clinical education including aspects such as ‘the first meeting’, getting to know your students/researchers’ abilities and supervisory styles.

The challenges of leading supervisory teams will be explored including working with multiple research paradigms, delegating roles, managing conflict and the impact of poor supervision on the student/researcher.
