‘Translating your bright idea into achievable research questions is crucial in moving forward with your project and securing the support you need. I started out as a GP in 2015 and quickly saw all sorts of problems I wanted to do something about. NIHR funding initially as an In Practice Fellow and now as a Doctoral Fellow has facilitated my recent journey of turning my ideas into research questions in my area of interest, medical education and securing the GP workforce. I’m looking forward to sharing my learning and top tips from the process with you all’ – Dr Lily Lamb

The fifth session in our series, took place on 21st February 2024, lead by Doyin Alao (NIHR GP Clinical Lecturer) Hugh Alberti (Professor of GP Education).

Interviews and focus groups are a great way of gaining deep understanding of problems and potential solutions in clinical education. But they must be done properly to get good quality data that addresses the research questions. I am a GP and Academic Clinical Lecturer in Newcastle University. I found it interesting to learn about qualitative methods during my MD in medical education, where I conducted interviews and focus groups. I am looking forward to sharing my insights with you in this webinar.

The seventh session in our series, ‘Tackling the practicalities of research’ took place on 17th April 2024, led by Hugh Alberti (Professor of GP Education) and Katie Webb (School of Medicine Cardiff University).

Undertaking educational research can seem daunting to start with and particularly some of the practical issues. The session addressed questions such as: Do you need funding and if so where can you go for it? Do you need permission and from whom? Do you need ethics permission and how do you go about getting it? What about involving public and patient involvement – what is this and how do you arrange it?

The ninth and final session in our series will take place on 19th June 2024. Presented by Mr Matthew Byrne (DPhil student and Urology Registrar), and chaired by Prof Hugh Alberti.
